Ezekiel 36 - Biblical Prophecy

God’s plan for the return of the Jewish people to Israel

The return of the Jewish people to the land from which they were banished nearly 2,000 years ago is one of the greatest miracles of all time. Just as amazing is the fact that the Hebrew prophets predicted this return more than 3,000 years ago!  God himself is bringing the Jewish people to Israel from all over the world, in fulfilment of numerous Biblical prophecies. Many of those prophecies refer specifically to ‘the land of the north’.  This is widely understood to refer to the lands of the former Soviet Union, given that Moscow, the former capital of the Soviet Union, is due north of Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 36 - The Honoring of God's Name

God's Purposes in Aliyah

Aliyah is the Hebrew word for the return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel. The word literally means to ”go up.” In temple times, the Israelites “went up” to Jerusalem, located high in the mountains of central Israel, then “ascended” to the Temple Mount to worship the Lord. The present-day aliyah refers to the re-gathering of God’s ancient people from wherever He has scattered them throughout the world, with the understanding that their return is ultimately to worship the Lord. The Israelites were exiled from their land as a result of their disobedience, but many passages of the Hebrew Scriptures (known to Christians as the Old Testament) record God’s promise to bring His people back from the nations and to settle them in their own land. Ezekiel 36 shows us that aliyah is much more than a people returning to their ancient homeland.

Has The Church Replaced Israel?

What Do You Mean?

There are those who, as they read the Scriptures, see no further place for Israel in the purposes of God for his dealings with mankind. This belief is known as “Replacement Theology.” It is, as its name suggests, a doctrine of replacement—specifically, that God has turned from using the Jewish people to using the Church, and that the nation of Israel no longer has any special significance.

The Planting of the Lord

Pastor Wayne Hilsden—Ebenezer Emergency Fund International Advisory Council Member

Since their very inception as a nation, the Jewish people became aware of their calling—to become "the planting of the Lord." It was for that very purpose that God brought them out of Egypt. Following their miraculous deliverance through the Red Sea, Moses and the children of Israel sang these words in Exodus 15:17: "You will bring them in and plant them In the mountain of Your inheritance, In the place, 0 Lord, which You have made For Your own dwelling, The sanctuary, 0 Lord, which Your hands have established."

Bringing The Jewish People Home

Rev. Willem J. J. Glashouwer

There is a great need in churches and among individual Christians for understanding from the Scriptures of God’s purposes for Israel, the Church and the nations. From time to time we will be publishing with the Bulletin articles aimed at helping in this understanding. In the first of these, Willem Glashouwer explains how the return of the Jewish people to Israel from all over the world and the Second Coming of Christ are parallel events happening at the end of the age—and we are living in these end times.
