ZION–REDEMPTION FOR ISRAEL AND THE NATIONS
BY JOHN PROSSER, PRESIDENT, OEUSA
Zion stands at the center of God’s redemptive plan for Israel and for all nations. Throughout Scripture—from the prophets to the apostles—Jerusalem is portrayed as the place where God’s purposes converge. From Zion, His Word will go forth. From Jerusalem, His peace will spread. Through His chosen people, His covenant faithfulness will be displayed before the world.
This is not simply ancient history. Zion remains essential for every believer who follows the Jewish Messiah, Christ Jesus. Scripture calls us to love, honor, and pray for Jerusalem. Psalm 87:2 (NLT) reminds us that the LORD “loves the city of Jerusalem more than any other city in Israel.” With that in mind, this Scripture becomes crucial intercession for God’s unfolding plan: “Pray for peace in Jerusalem… may there be peace within your walls… For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem [Zion].” Psalm 122:6, 7, 9 NLT
We pray not only for present peace but for God’s eternal purposes to be fulfilled. Isaiah’s vision has not yet come to completion. The
nations are not yet streaming to Jerusalem for instruction. Peace has not yet covered the earth. As lovers of Zion, we are invited by God to pray into His promises—aligning our hearts with His redemptive work until the day His Word goes out from Zion to all the world.
Yet many believers today wrestle with what it means to “love Zion.” The answer is simple: we must love what God loves. Biblical Zionism is not a political ideology—it is alignment with God’s heart for His redemptive plan for Israel and the nations.
As followers of the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, we are called to live as ambassadors of His coming Kingdom. God’s teaching will one day
flow from Jerusalem to the nations, and even now we are called to embody it—living our lives in intercession and proclamation of His Word, His righteousness, His faithfulness, His mercy, and hope.
Zion is the place God chose to dwell among His people—to advance His salvation plan. As Gentile believers grafted into that plan, we are invited to take our place with humility, honoring the grace of God that brought us in. Paul uses a vivid image in Romans 11:17 (NLT): Gentile believers are like wild olive branches “grafted into Israel’s cultivated tree.” We do not replace the root—we draw life from it.
To love Zion is to honor the root from which salvation came. It deepens our understanding of Scripture and strengthens our identity in Christ. In a world where Israel is hated, misunderstood, or opposed, those who love Zion must stand with clarity, compassion, and Biblical conviction.
May we pray faithfully, walk humbly, and look with expectation toward the day when the salvation of Israel comes from Zion!
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. Psalm 14:7 NKJV
